August 29, 2016 Holiday ‘National Heroes Day’ August 30-31, 2016 Regular Working Days

MANILA, Philippines – Pursuant to Proclamation No. 1105, s. 2015, or the Declaration of Regular Holidays and Special Non-Working days for the Year 2016, August 29, 2016 (last Monday of August) or the ‘National Heroes Day’ was declared regular holiday while August 30-31, 2016, as others asking, are regular working days.

National Heroes Day or “Araw ng mga Bayani” is a movable Philippine holiday to commemorate the anniversary of the 1896 Cry of Pugad Lawin by the Katipunan which began the Philippine Revolution and commemorates all the nation’s heroes.

Likewise, through Proclamation No. 339 s. 2012, the month of August has been declared as History Month, thereby transferring the observance of History Week from September 15 to 21 by virtue of Proclamation No. 1304 s. 1974 to the whole month of August.

The proclamation states that major events in the nation’s history occurred in August thereby declaring national heroes day at the last Monday of the said month.
