MANILA, Philippines – In lieu with President Duterte administration pronouncements on salary increase of the uniformed personnel (police and military), the Teacher’s Dignity Coalition (TDC) reiterated their request to likewise increase the salary of public school teachers by 10, 000 Pesos.
In a report by Manila Bulletin, TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas said that they are hoping that the palace will grant their request. As quoted,
We are anticipating an announcement from the palace that it is now ready to grant the P10,000 across-the-board increase for the salaries of public school teachers.
The proposal for increase according to Basas is based on the bill filed by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano during the 14th Congress on 2008. The former President Gloria Arroyo however preferred the amendment of Salary Standardization Law (SSL) which entails P6, 523 increase from 2009-2012.

He added that the former administration “did not end the suffering of teachers” and let the law to lapse by 2012.
The Aquino administration never considered raising the salaries of teachers and government employees until its last months in office when it pursued the SSL 2015 which further amended the existing SSL.
Though Basas knew that the current administration prioritizes the suppression of criminality, they (public school teachers) will continue to push for the 10,000 pesos increase above SSL.
