#WalangPasok: January 17, 2020 Class Suspensions due to Taal Volcano Eruption

MANILA, Philippines – Classes on Friday, January 17, 2020 are still suspended at affected areas surrounding Taal Volcano due to Alert Level 4 raised by Phivolcs.

Taal Volcano erupted on January 12, 2020 which triggered class cancellations from January 13-17, 2020.

Suspensions of work and classes in private companies and universities are at the discretion of their administration.

Here’s the live list of class/ work suspensions on January 17, 2020 as declared by respective LGUs.

  • Cavite Province (All levels, public and private)
  • Batangas Province (All levels, public and private)
  • Laguna
    • Calamba – all levels (public and private)
    • Biñan City – all levels (public and private)
    • Santa Rosa City – all levels (public and private)
    • San Pedro City – all levels (public and private)
    • Cabuyao City – preschool to senior high school (public and private)

DEPED  RULES ON CANCELLATIONS OF CLASSES

Per DepEd Order 43, s. 2012 or the guidelines on the implementation of Executive Order No. 66 (Prescribing Rules on the Cancellation or Suspension of Classes and Work in Government Offices Due to Typhoons, Flooding, Other Weather Disturbances, and Calamities),


In the events of calamities other than typhoon such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, volcanic eruption, among others, decisions on the class cancellations shall be made by the concerned LGU offices. To quote,

Decisions on and subsequent announcement of cancellation/suspension of classes in public and private schools and work in government offices in areas affected by disasters or calamities other than typhoons, such as but not limited to floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and conflagration, shall be made by the local government executive as chairperson of the LDRRMC, in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), through all forms of mass media available under the circumstances.
