APPROVED: Lowered Height Requirements for PNP, BFP, BJMP & BUCOR Application

MANILA, Philippines – Good news for aspiring policemen, fire officers and jail officers as the Senate has unanimously approved in the third and final reading the lowering of height requirements for PNP, BFP, BJMP and BUCOR applicants.

Those male applicants with 5 foot 2 inches (1.57 meters) in height and female applicants with at least 5 foot (1.52 meters) are now welcome to apply.

The twenty-three (23) senators has agreed to pass the Senate Bill No. 1563, reducing the minimum height requirements for Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Correction (BuCor). Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is the main sponsor of the said bill.

Quoting Senator dela Rosa’s speech,

With the passage today of the PNP, BFP, BJMP and BuCor Height Equality Bill, which we hope will soon be enacted into law, we give more in law to those who have less in height

We give an important contribution in addressing the social inequality for those who have not been gifted with towering height

If we continue to allow physical attributes as the basis of entry into government service, and if as legislators, we have only done so little to change this practice, are we not shortchanging our people, the Filipinos who gave us our legislative mandate.
