The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that the full implementation of the mandatory requirement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for renewal of PRC ID license will be on July 2017.
PRC likewise emphasized that registered and licensed professionals have to adhere with the law, otherwise, they could not be permitted to renew their license(s).
The commission stated in Resolution No. 2016-990 series of 2016 that professionals have to comply with specific number of CPD units every three (3) years to continue with license renewal. As quoted from the latest announcement from PRC,

The Continuing Professional Development Program Management Committee (CPD-PMC) of the Professional Regulation Commission clarifies that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as mandatory requirement in the renewal of professional license under Section 10 of R.A. 10912, otherwise known as the CPD Law of 2016, shall be implemented after the effectivity of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of R.A. 10912 which will be in March 2017. Thereafter, the CPD Council for each regulated profession shall issue its Operational Guidelines to implement the general IRR for its profession. However, for those professionals whose Professional Regulatory Laws require CPD credit units prior to the renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PICs), or the professional license, compliance with CPD remains mandatory.
How can professionals earn CPD Units? Registered or Licensed Professionals can acquire CPD units through Professional Track, Academic Track, Self-Directed Training and other activities recommended by the CPD Council. As stated in the Revised resolution, here is the detailed matrix of programs/activities the professionals must do to attain the corresponding CPD units, courtesy of PRC.

The better alternative to this CPD units requirement for professionals in order for them to renew their PRC licences is for the government to require Companies/Agencies/Institutions/Hospitals/Establishments/etc. to conduct seminars and workshops that would upgrade the Knowledge,Skills,Attitude of their employees, award them with certificates of attendance, and equivalent units earned for particular Seminars/Workshops, in order for these to be presented to PRC upon renewal of their PRC licences. This would certainly obviate the burden on the professionals of personally looking for 'CPD units' and spending much for it. If our lawmakers are really intent on helping the Filipinos, this is what they should do.

Hello Friends, I am also an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia when the implementation of CPD Points started. Although I have training before its implementation and the training are within the 3 year period, I was still able to avail of CPD points through Online Training. I enrolled in courses at LinkeIn and they did credit those trainings. I believe this is the best alternative for OFW aside seminars conducted by respective APO in certain countries. also, okay lang sana na may gantong requirement to renew basta ba damihan nila ang mga accredited agencies na pwedeng magbigay ng units.. and pls, if the main purpose of the act is to secure the competency of the country's professionals, sana government mismo ang nag-sama sa articles nitong act na sila ang magbibigay ng seminars and that they will do their best to reach the professionals na hindi abot ng mga accredited providers ng CPD. as a social worker in an NGO, napakahirap makipag sabayan sa mga RSWs na nasa GOs kasi accredited ang DSWD. hindi namna lahat ng NGO/SWDA kaya pong suportahan ang Php 5,000 at air fee/travel fee ng mga social workers nila… also, sana in-evaluate man lang sana kung sino sino yung mga kelangan tlaga ng worth 45 units na profession. kawawa naman yung ibang profession na hindi naman ganun ka active when it comes to seminars and trainings.
