MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his first State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA) on July 25, 2016 at Batasang Pambansa.

The internationally-acclaimed director Brilliante Mendoza will direct the event. He told ABS-CBN news that they will try to show the natural personality of the President. As quoted from his statement,
Ipapakita lang natin ang natural, ipapakita kung papaano siya makipagusap sa mga tao at kanilang tunay na reaksyon. Kung baga walang embellishment.
Atty. Paola Alvarez the incoming finance spokesperson said that even the team helping the President to prepare for the SONA doesn’t know the content of his speech. In an interview with GMA News, she said,
Yan po talaga ang ugali niya. No one knows what he’s going to say.
Right now, the President will be addressing what they want to hear, what we could do for them and not what they already know
In a related report, the SONA 2016 of President Duterte will not be a fashion show. As quoted from Ms. Alvarez,
We will downplay the event. It will not be a fashion show. We want to center on the what the President’s message is to our people especially it’s his first State of the Nation Address. So it will be a different take because our guests will be requested not to wear their gowns as what we have previously been seeing in the past SONAs,
Militant groups also said that they will not hold aggressive rally including burning of effigies unlike previous SONAs. Instead, they will peacefully present portraits of how they expect the present administration will alleviate problems related to poverty, education, corruption, among others.
Meanwhile, classes at all levels in Quezon City have already been suspended on July 25, 2016 as part of the preparations for SONA.
